Meet at the Valley West Ray’s parking lot near the Jitter Bean Coffee drive through around 7:20 am. Join
Keith Slauson who knows the Lower Mad River riparian areas better than most and knows how to weed
out the grain from the chaff and find the good birds. This trip will begin at the Blue Lake Cottonwoods and
venture downstream to bird accessible lower Mad River riparian areas like the new Carlson Park, in
Arcata, Mad River County Park, and maybe the School Road trail. Migrant passerines will be the focus
but all species will be noted and enjoyed along the way. A great trip for finding potential vagrant “Eastern”
flycatchers, vireos, warblers, and a good trip to practice identifying fall warblers.
