Southern Humboldt is so different from the Humboldt Bay region in that it has more of a Central California feel due to the birdlife like Acorn Woodpeckers, California Towhees, White-throated Swifts and more. Southern Humboldt Community Park is an easily accessible location with flat, easy hiking trails right outside of Garberville which has the above species and others like Ash-throated Flycatchers, Western Tanagers and Bluebirds, and occasionally breeding Grasshopper Sparrows. Restrooms are available in nearby Garberville. Bring food and water and a spotting scope of you have one.
