TH04 Elk River Estuary & Wildlife Sanctuary – ♿ wheelchair accessible | 2024 | $20 – SOLD OUT
Time - 8:00 am - 12:00 pm
Trip Leader(s): Gary Falxa
In 2022, the City of Eureka did a major salt marsh restoration effort south of the Elk River channel, adding many acres of new wetland and mudflats that should prove to be very attractive to waterfowl and shorebirds. Part of this trip will be spent birding the new habitat, to see what species are present. The rest of the time will be spent birding the Elk River Wildlife Sanctuary, looking for songbirds and other waterbirds on the Elk River. Expect a few miles of walking on very easy paved terrain. With the close proximity of various wetland and riparian habitats, many species should be seen on this trip. No restrooms available.
♿ This trip is accessible for people using wheelchairs.
Bird species seen on last year’s trip, view here.
MEETING LOCATION: Herrick Avenue Park-and-Ride at south end of Eureka
