TH02 Kneeland & Coastal Prairies of Humboldt – NEW | 2024 | $25 – SOLD OUT
Time - 7:00 am - 1:00 pm
Trip Leader(s): Ken Burton
The Kneeland area is a beautiful inland region that comprises mixed conifer forest, coastal prairies (like the Bald Hills of Redwood National Park), and oak woodland. The views are spectacular and so are the birds with such species as Sooty Grouse, Golden Eagle, Acorn Woodpecker, White-breasted Nuthatch, Grasshopper and Chipping Sparrows being some of the highlights expected. This trip is roadside-birding-focused, and all birding will be done along the road. Some brief stops might be made around the Freshwater area on the way up the road to Kneeland but most of the time birding will be spent birding the Kneeland Loop that goes out to Showers Pass and then returns via Mountain View Road. Restrooms are not available on the loop but are found at Freshwater Park.
Bird species seen in the Kneeland area during April, view here.
