Ok, ok, if you are familiar with Mckinleyville you know that it is unincorporated so is technically not a
city. Nonetheless, back in 2010 McKinleyville took the honors of the “Birdiest City” competition
(recorded more total species seen within “city limits” than Arcata and Eureka) and on this trip
Godwit Days participants will see why! McKinleyville has so many habitats to explore for
birding, from coastal Sitka Spruce forest, riverside riparian, river estuary, beaches and more.
McKinleyville has also attracted some of the rarest of the rare birds seen in Humboldt County,
like Little Bunting, Common Greenshank, and Brown Shrike (none of these are to be expected,
of course!!). Come join this trip to explore some of the great birding McKinleyville has to offer.
