Trip Leader(s): George Ziminsky
The City of Arcata boasts the crown jewel of birding on the North Coast, the Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary, where over 330 species of birds have been recorded. A leisurely paced trip introducing the Marsh’s birds is perfect for anybody with an interest in nature. As part of the City of Arcata’s wastewater treatment process, this restored and constructed wetland area hosts an abundance of birds and other wildlife. An exclusive tour of the wastewater treatment facility that normally not open to the public is included in this event. Terrain mostly flat, but may be wet. Restrooms available at the Interpretive Center. Plenty of opportunities to use a spotting scope, if you have one to bring.
MEETING LOCATION: Arcata Community Center Lobby
EDIT: DUE TO ACTIVE CONSTRUCTION, ACCESS TO THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE THIS YEAR. IN LIEU OF THE EXCLUSIVE TOUR OF THE FACILITY, A 20-MINUTE VIDEO WILL BE PRESENTED BY GEORGE ALONG WITH EXTRA TIME SPENT WANDERING THE MARSH.
