Michael, an author and co-editor of the new book The Klamath Mountains: A Natural History, will lead a journey to Horse Mountain. Participants will explore the mutualistic relationships between birds and conifers and search out regionally exceptional examples of each. Stops include montane forest, serpentine ridgelines, and mountain meadows. Be prepared for snow and/or cold weather. Bird highlights could include Cassin’s Vireo, Warbling Vireo, Bewick’s Wren, Wilson’s Warbler, Red-breasted Sapsucker, and Townsend’s Solitaire. Exceptional conifers include Port Orford-Cedar, Western White Pine, and Pacific Yew. Bring lunch, drink, hiking shoes, and warm clothes. Restrooms may be available along the way.
