The Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary is the center of the universe for Humboldt birding, with more species being recorded here than at any other single location in the county. This trip, a “Godwit Days Classic” pre-breakfast outing, is planned to catch the dawn chorus in full swing at the Marsh. Willows along the trails host songbirds and the reed beds support chattering Marsh Wrens. Orange-crowned, Wilson’s and Yellow-rumped Warblers and Common Yellowthroats are in full song, while Song Sparrows sing for mates and re-establish their territories. This trip will provide an introduction to the variety of birds at the Marsh. Terrain is mostly flat on maintained trails.

Bird species seen on last year’s Dawn Chorus trips, view here.

MEETING LOCATION: Arcata Community Center, Outside front doors
