SA39 Ocean Ranch & South Spit 2 – NEW | 2023 | $20

Ocean Ranch of the Eel River Wildlife Area was formerly considered one of the best shore-birding locations between Humboldt and Bodega Bays. But some years ago, management of the area changed and it was no longer the hotspot it once was. However, in recent years, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has accomplished a major restoration project, pulling tide gates to reintroduce the tidal flow and building infrastructure such as trails and a new parking lot to make it a destination again for birders and the general public – and hopefully shorebirds! Ocean Ranch is open to the public again, so let’s go see what it has to offer! If time allows, the trip may also visit the South Spit/Jetty. Restrooms available at Waluplh-Lighthouse Ranch.
