Godwit Days hasn’t run a grouse trip for some years now so it’s time to bring them back. We’ll start the morning driving Tall Trees Road for Ruffed Grouse. After the Tall Trees Road Ruffed Grouse search we’ll head up to Bald Hills Road to look for male Sooty Grouse booming along the road. Up in the oak savannah in the actual “Bald Hills” we should also encounter the local White-breasted Nuthatch, Western Bluebirds, Chipping Sparrow and other oak woodland species. There might even be a chance to see Golden Eagle or…dare we say….California Condors? This will be mostly a roadside birding trip but some walking up and down hills may be involved up in the Bald Hills area so wear sturdy footwear. We will limit this trip to 11 participants and only 4 cars and will carpool to make grousing on Tall Trees Road easier. Bring a mask if concerned about carpooling with others.

Bird species seen at these locations during April, view here.

MEETING LOCATION: Arcata Community Center Lobby
