SA33 Horse Mountain & High-Elevation Habitats – CLASSIC | 2023 | $20
Time - 7:00 am - 12:30 pm
Trip Leader(s): Jim McIntosh
Head to Horse Mountain (about 30 minutes inland), the nearest high-elevation montane habitat where species such as Sooty Grouse, Mountain Quail, White-headed Woodpecker, and Mountain Chickadee reside. Bring a lunch, warm clothes, and expect beautiful scenery! There may even be snow on the ground, but that never discourages the chickadees! Much of the land in Horse Mountain proper is managed by Six Rivers National Forest. Due to tight (mostly paved) roads, we need to keep car numbers to a minimum. Expect variable terrain, possibly snow or wet ground. Restrooms are not available. Some opportunities to use a spotting scope, if you have one.
