THIS TRIP HAS BEEN CANCELED DUE TO ROUGH CONDITIONS EXPECTED AT SEA THURSDAY, APRIL 14. STANDBY FOR POSSIBLE RESCHEDULING TO MONDAY.

Godwit Days has not had a pelagic (ocean) trip scheduled for many years, since no boats were available that could take more than 6 people at a time. But a new boat, “Stellar Sunrise,” has moved into the area and is Coast Guard certified to carry up to 18 people! We’ll try to get out to at least 15 miles offshore and hope to see the various types of seabirds that live offshore in the pelagic zone like albatross, shearwaters, fulmars, auklets, and maybe even a storm-petrel or a Tufted Puffin. You just never can predict what will show up on the ocean, as every day is different. Marine mammals like humpback whales, Pacific white-sided dolphins, and northern fur seals are also a possibility. One year we saw a sperm whale! Bring a lunch, dress in layers, and take all the precautions one would when going out on the ocean (e.g., taking seasickness medication, not drinking a lot of alcohol the night before). There is a “head” (bathroom) on the boat. If this trip gets canceled due to weather, it will be rescheduled for Monday, April 17. TO SIGN UP, YOU MUST BE ABLE TO ATTEND EITHER DATE.
