FR37 Arcata Marsh Night Hike | 2018 – SOLD OUT | $10
Time - 7:45 pm - 9:15 pm
Trip Leader(s): Lauren McClure & Christine Champe
Once again, we feature the delights of the marsh, but with a twist. Join this tour for a unique perspective from twilight to dark at the Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary. We’ll look for birds at twilight including the Black-crowned Night-Herons leaving their day roost and Great Egrets coming in to their night roost. New this year, we’ll have a discussion about concepts of bat echolocation and will record bat calls using a Wildlife Acoustics detector to identify bat species. We will also discuss the life histories of bats that use the Marsh and how acoustic information is used to study bats. Dusk hours are prime mosquito time. Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and other protective clothing and use mosquito repellent. Terrain is flat but may be wet. Light will mostly be too low for optics use. You may want to take a small flashlight.
