FR15 Ocean Ranch & South Spit 1 – NEW | 2023 | $20

Ocean Ranch of the Eel River Wildlife Area was formerly considered one of the best shore-birding locations between Humboldt and Bodega Bays. But some years ago, management of the area changed and it was no longer the hotspot it once was. BUT, in recent years, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife has accomplished a major restoration project, pulling tide gates to reintroduce the tidal flow and building infrastructure such as trails and a new parking lot to make it a destination again for birders and the general public – and hopefully shorebirds! Ocean Ranch is open to the public again, so let’s go see what it has to offer! If time allows, a visit to the South Spit will also happen but Ocean Ranch will be the main focus of this trip. Restrooms are available at the nearby Waluplh-Lighthouse Ranch. Event repeats Saturday (#SA39).
