The picturesque coastal town of Trinidad is a well-known hotspot for coastal birding and Gary B. will lead you to all the best-known locations: Elk Head for songbirds and viewing the large murre colonies found on Flatiron and Green Rocks, Trinidad Bay for cormorants and rocky shorebirds (maybe the wintering male Harlequin Duck will still be around!), Luffenholtz Beach and Scenic Drive for amazing coastal views and more options for near coastal oceanic seafaring birds like scoters, loons and maybe even Marbled Murrelets. After an outdoor no-host lunch at the Lighthouse Cafe, the trip may venture to the Trinidad Museum to view the amazing native plant garden and the birds associated with it and there may also be time for a quick trip to Clam and Little River State Beach to view the local Snowy Plovers on the way back to Arcata.
