Meet at Manila Community Park. From Arcata, take hwy 255 (Samoa Blvd) west into Manila, left on Lupin Ave at the Lighthouse Plaza mini mart, across RR tracks to the parking lot on the left. From Eureka, hwy 255 west over the bay, stay right toward manila, right on Lupin Ave  Late September/early October can be the peak of fall vagrant season, and the Samoa Peninsula can be one of the best places to find them.  Join Ken Burton, author of Common Birds of Northwest California, in a search for some uncommon birds.  The group will explore willow thickets and tree stands as well as scan the bay and the ocean.  If conditions are right, the itinerary will include a walk out onto the jetty; shoes with good tread and a walking stick are recommended. Pack a lunch and water, bring a spotting scope if you have one.
