FALL PELAGIC TRIP – SEPTEMBER 23, 2023 – $150 – SOLD OUT
Time - 7:00 am - 3:00 pm
Trip Leader(s): Rob Fowler, Gary Friedrichsen, & Kathryn Wendel
Godwit Days, with support from Redwood Region Audubon Society, is pleased to offer our first Fall Pelagic Trip aboard the Stellar Sunrise, a U.S. Coast Guard certified vessel with 360` degree viewing and a bathroom facility.
We’ll try to get out to at least 15 miles offshore and hope to see the various types of seabirds that live offshore in the pelagic zone like albatross, shearwaters, fulmars, auklets, and maybe even a storm-petrel or a Tufted Puffin. You just never can predict what will show up on the ocean, as every day is different. Marine mammals like humpback whales, Pacific white-sided dolphins, and northern fur seals are also a possibility. Bring a lunch, water, sunscreen, dress in layers, and take all the precautions one would when going out on the ocean (e.g., taking seasickness medication, not drinking a lot of alcohol the night before, etc.). Binoculars and cameras are welcome, but no spotting scopes are permitted.
MEETING LOCATION: Foot of D Dock at Woodley Island, Eureka
