Birding on the Madaket – September 25, 2022 – SOLD OUT
Time - 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Trip Leader(s): Jude Power, Rob Fowler
Join us as we resume our annual birding tour aboard the historic Madaket vessel around Humboldt Bay, Eureka, CA. Local bird experts, Jude Power & Rob Fowler, will narrate this tour around the bay while participants sit back and relax. Beverages will be available for purchase at the no-host bar. In addition to birds, expect to see harbor seals, sea lions, and harbor porpoises. Exposed mudflats along the shore attract flocks of shorebirds, while seabirds can be seen on the open waters of the bay. Osprey and Peregrine Falcon are often seen perched on structures in or along the edge of the water or soaring overhead. Terns and gulls roosting on shoreline pilings are used to the boat cruising by closely and only peer at us quizzingly. Shorebird flocks often swoop by, offering a unique perspective.
We have been offering this trip since 2010 and it is very popular. We encourage people to sign-up early as the trip does tend to sell out quickly. Bring your binoculars and wear layers in case of light breeze or cooler temperatures. The trip will depart promptly at 5:30PM and finish at 7:30PM, close to sunset.
Registrants are to meet at the foot of “C” St. in Old Town Eureka. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time for check-in and boarding.
