Southern Humboldt is so different from the Humboldt Bay region in that it has more of a Central California feel due to birdlife such as Acorn Woodpeckers, California Towhees, White-throated Swifts, and more. Southern Humboldt Community Park is an accessible location with easy hiking trails right outside of Garberville, where you can find the above-mentioned species and others like Ash-throated Flycatcher, Western Tanager, and Western Bluebird, and breeding Grasshopper Sparrows. Ann and Andrew will lead you through the park until lunchtime. We’ll eat our boxed lunch in the Community Park. Then, the trip will visit an active Bald Eagle nest and scope it from a respectable distance to witness any activity that may be happening! Restrooms are available at the Park and in the Benbow area. Expect mostly easy walking for a few miles at the Park and a 2-mile round trip to and from the eagle nest up and down a gentle grade.

This smaller group event includes a sack lunch, please let us know if you have dietary restrictions by sending an e-mail to [email protected] with details.
