Godwit Days is pleased to offer our second-annual fall pelagic trip aboard the Steller Sunrise, a U.S. Coast Guard certified 43-foot vessel with 360` degree viewing and a bathroom facility.

We’ll work on getting 15-20 miles offshore with our main focus on the Eel River Canyon and hope to see the various types of seabirds that live offshore in the pelagic zone like albatross, shearwaters, fulmars, auklets, and maybe even storm-petrels or a Tufted Puffin. We’ll make a few stops to try and chum in the seabirds to bring them in close for excellent views. You can never predict what will show up on the ocean as every day is different but it is always an experience for sure! Marine mammals like humpback whales, Pacific white-sided dolphins, and northern fur seals are also a possibility. Bring a lunch, water, sunscreen, dress in layers, optics cloth like a bandana or such to keep your optics and camera lens clean, and take all the precautions one would when going out on the ocean (e.g., taking seasickness medication, not drinking a lot of alcohol the night before, etc.). Binoculars and cameras are welcome, but no spotting scopes are permitted.

MEETING LOCATION: Foot of D Dock at Woodley Island, Eureka. (601 Startare Dr, Eureka, CA. From Hwy 101 in Eureka, take Hwy 255 Samoa Bridge west to Woodley Island (1st Exit). Dock “D” is located in front of the Cafe Marina Restaurant.)
